Why Give to The Shrine?

By Pat Hughes, Director of Operations

The Shrine of St. Joseph has always been a self-sustaining ministry of the Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity.  Enhanced by the fundraising efforts of its auxiliary guilds,  the outstanding generosity of benefactors who journey here,  those who remember their loved ones through Masses or place petitions before candles, those who frequent our Gift & Book Shop, and the stewardship of our small worshipping communities who gratefully acknowledge the pastoral refuge granted to them, the Shrine has been able to operate and maintain these holy grounds while also  providing financial assistance to our ministries for the poor, infirmed and abandoned in other parts of the United States and South America.

Recognizing the need to prepare for the decline in an aging Guild membership, along with the need to hire lay personnel for maintenance work previously provided by the religious living here, the Shrine sought ways to increase revenue, while reducing operational expenditures.  In keeping within the paradigms of non profit organizations, an annual Fund Appeal was created ten years ago,   supplemented by fundraising events managed through the Shrine  volunteer stewards.  This year, we need to raise $100,000 to supplement our declining reserve fund.

Loyalty to the Shrine of St. Joseph runs deep.  Many  devotees to the Shrine, our patron saint, St. Joseph, and the power of the prayer ministry of our beloved resident priests, have generously contributed to the Shrine and enabled us to respond to the needs of those who are in need.   In addition to the annual fund, they have generously remembered their loved ones with engraved pavers, donations to the upkeep of the Tower of Remembrance, major contributions of corporate stock, and will remembrances.

The religious and lay stewards of these holy grounds are grateful for this ongoing support and would appreciate further participation to retain our sacred ministries.  There are many opportunities for remembrances.

Please call Josephine Megaro at the Shrine Office, Mon.-Fri. between 9am-5pm at 908-647-0208

Rescued from the rubble, an historic statute of St. Joseph, put aside because no funds were available for its restoration, was recently recovered, and thanks to the generosity of a patron, carefully restored.  It adorned the St. Joseph’s table during  the Shrine’s Triduum to  Saint Joseph in March.

Remember Loved Ones

Do you want to remember your loved ones...with prayers, memorials on our Hall of Remembrance or a brick in his/her honor on the path to the original Shrine of St. Joseph?

Or perhaps you want to remember them in Masses said here at the Shrine, with candles, or novenas and devotions to our patron, Saint Joseph.   Many people are incorporating the Shrine of St. Joseph in their wills.  Remembrances abound and will be discussed with you privately by our loving employee,  Josephine Megaro, who has been with the Shrine for fifty years!  Call her M-F, 9-5 at 908-647-0208.   She will guide you to make a lasting memorial.
