An
evening of spiritual intimacy and comfort aptly sum up the extraordinary
feelings of participants who have found the new Trinity House retreats their
oasis of meditation, reflection and prayer! Now entering its second full year
as the Trinity House Retreat Center, it was initiated by former Shrine Director
Fr. Peter J. Krebs, S.T., to enhance the sacred nature of the Shrine, and at the
same time, fill voids left by declining availability of offerings, both in local
parishes and neighboring retreat centers at a time when the need for spiritual
advocacy is on the rise.
Fr. Peter reiterated the
need, “In my forty years as a priest I have witnessed the growing spiritual
hunger among our journeyers, whose common values are becoming increasingly
tested by the changes in those institutions which once sustained them,
especially under adverse conditions.” Once he retired as director of The Shrine
of St. Joseph, Fr. Peter gathered practiced spiritual guides to form a “retreat
team” that has created a series of evening retreats at Trinity House, a historic
cottage perfectly situated at the edge of a natural wilderness, the Great
Swamp.

Additionally,
guest facilitators share insights from their experience and pastoral practices,
creating a holistic spirituality. Each retreat subject, whether in prayer,
scripture reading, homiletic discourse, and work through journaling, art, and
readings, enhances the participants ’ deepening relationship with God.
Spiritual guidance is
available at the retreats, the only retreat center offering it at retreats. The
monthly series of Monday evening retreats is outlined in a brochure. Available
by calling the Shrine office, M-F, 9-5, at 908-647-0208. Share in the peace and
blessings of this historic retreat house and your loving God.
Days of Reflection
The spiritual retreats,
which have been part of the Shrine programming throughout its history, are
expanding! In addition to accommodating group retreats, the Shrine is now
offering Open Days of Reflection, which encourages individuals to participate in
these rewarding experiences. The program is similar: a themed subject, led by
one of the team members, opportunity for reflection and reconciliation before a
home-made lunch is served in the residence dining room. A Mass ends the
session.
As part of its new
Senior Ministry, the retreats offer area people wishing to spend a spiritual day
at the Shrine an opportunity to meet new people in the sacred setting of the
Shrine. For information, call M-F, 9-5 at 908-647-0208.

Seeking a Spiritual Guide
Want to spend time with a
Spiritual Guide? Or perhaps you might want to enroll in a special program
that gives certification in Spiritual Guidance. You may do both at the Shrine.
Spiritual guides, some graduates of a two-year old program here at the Shrine,
are available for consultation.
For information, call Pat Hughes at the
Shrine, Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm at 908-647-0208. |
