THE  COMING  OF  THE SPIRIT  AMONG  US

LEADER:  WISDOM is the ability to see the obvious to the essential meaning of an event. When we become mired in the specifics, the details, we may miss the meaning of it all. We lose a vision of the important; we lose heart. 

ALL:  COME, SPIRIT OF WISDOM, THAT WE MAY SEE YOUR  PRESENCE CLEARLY AND FOLLOW YOUR CALL, WHEREVER YOU MAY LEAD US.

LEADER:  UNDERSTANDING is given to us so that we can come to see the ideas that direct our lives. It gives us the long view, the God’s eye view of things that bring meaning and order to what we do. 

ALL:  COME, SPIRIT OF UNDERSTANDING, ENLIGHTEN US SO WE MAY SEE YOUR WILL IN OUR LIVES AND IN THE MOVEMENT OF OUR HEARTS. 

LEADER:   COUNSEL is the gift of spiritual search. Unless we are willing to take and give counsel, we run the risk of being trapped in the confines of our own experience, our own measured view of reality. 

ALL:  COME, SPIRIT OF COUNSEL, HELP US TO LISTEN WELL TO THE WISDOM OF OTHERS AS WELL AS THAT OF OUR OWN MINDS AND HEARTS; GIVE US WORDS TO SPEAK THAT WILL BRING ABOUT YOUR REIGN.      

LEADER:  FORTITUDE is the strength and courage to persist in the face of defeat; to continue in the face of weariness, so that God’s will may    triumph over lesser goals.  

ALL: COME, SPIRIT OF FORTITUDE, GIVE US THE STRENGTH TO CONTINUE THE MISSION OF JESUS ON EARTH. WHEN WE ARE WEAK REMIND US THAT YOU ARE EVER PRESENT WITHIN US.

LEADER:  KNOWLEDGE provides us with the tools we need to make judgments that are true and kind, compassionate and just. The knowledge of God gives us the heart to say the truth under all circumstances. 

ALL:  COME, SPIRIT OF KNOWLEDGE, OPEN OUR EYES TO WHAT IS REALLY IMPORTANT IN LIFE. HELP US TO FACE OUR FEARS AND RECOGNIZE OUR GIFTEDNESS AS YOU LEAD US MORE INTO THE LIGHT OF YOUR TRUTH. 

LEADER:   PIETY is an impelling fire that moves us to see God in all creation and to respect Him in our brothers and sisters, thus enabling us to witness.

ALL:  COME, SPIRIT OF PIETY, OR REVERENCE. LEAD US IN OUR PRAISE OF ALL CREATION FOR THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE IS HOLY AND A REFLECTION OF YOUR GLORY AND YOUR      GOODNESS TO US.

LEADER:  FEAR OF THE LORD is an ancient spiritual concept, meant not to inspire anxiety, guilt, or dread of God, but to describe what happens to the soul that lives in awareness of the power of God.

ALL:  COME, SPIRIT OF THE FEAR OF THE LORD, FILL US WITH SO GREAT A SENSE OF YOU IN OUR SOULS THAT WE NEVER KNOW ABANDONMENT, NEVER KNOW DESPAIR. GIVE US THE ENERGY THAT COMES FROM A PIETY BUILT ON THE DISCOVERY IN  OURSELVES OF THE WONDER OF YOU.
