Fr. Peter and the shrine family extends a warm welcome to Brother Carlos
Urquina, age 24, who will be here for one year of missionary work helping
Fr. Odel with the migrant workers and assisting in many ministries of the
Shrine.
Brother Carlos hails from Pitalito Huila, Columbia and is the son of
Luz Marina and Luiz Alberto. His birth father, Carlos Julio, died when
Br. Carlos was eight years old. He is the proud brother of Jorge,
Eduardo, Patricia and Mauricio.
Introduced to the Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity by a
friend's mother, Brother Carlos has been in the Order for five years and
has studied philosophy and theology in Columbia and Mexico. He looks
forward to a life of serving the poor and helping people grow in their
faith. "I am so happy to be here at the Shrine", says Br. Carlos. "I
love the peace and quiet of the grounds and working with the Latino and
American cultures bring me joy."
Currently, he is studying English at Mt. St. Mary and is grateful for
the help of Sr. Mary Gerald with his lessons. In his spare time Br.
Carlos likes to play basketball, chess and the guitar.
